One way to celebrate the 4th of July is to visit the Grand Bay Watermelon Festival, presented by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge #73 at Festival Park on Saturday, July 4, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Cost to attend is $5 per vehicle.
Though free, all-you-can-eat, sliced, ice-cold watermelon may be sufficient reason to attend this annual event, there is much more to interest and entertain visitors. A large area has been marked off just for the joy of children. Included will be a petting zoo, train rides, pony rides, moon walks, face painting and games.
Food vendors will be on site selling barbecued ribs, chicken-on-a-stick, Polish sausage, hamburgers and hot dogs, snow cones, ice cream, doughnuts and more. There'll be arts and crafts, family entertainment, a Pretty Baby Contest and "Shine and Show" Car Show.
Call Patty Tripp, 865-3456 for information on Car Show or download entry applications at www.grandbaywatermelonfestival.org. The same contacts apply to general information.
