The Bayou La Batre Kayak Classic Fishing Tournament will kick off with a shotgun start at 6 a.m., Saturday, August 1 at the BLB City Docks. Sponsored by the Bayou La Batre Chamber of Commerce, the tournament will take place along the coast of the Bayou and the Gulf of Mexico.
According to the Chamber, "Kayak fishing is a rapidly growing sport in the U.S., offering access to both inshore and near-shore fishing arenas. This water sport, relatively inexpensive and relying on nothing more than human energy for power, is an exciting and challenging approach to one of America’s favorite pastimes."
Tickets are priced at only $30 for Adult Anglers, $20 for Junior Anglers and a Discount Combo of $50 includes entry to the tournament, as well as the Taste of the Bayou Seafood Festival to be held on September 29.
Anglers will compete for more than 30 different awards, which include both Master and Junior Angler division titles. (Junior anglers may fish from pier, land or kayaks.) First, second and third place adult anglers will receive plaques, and junior anglers will receive trophies. "There will even be a kayak giveaway," said Dena Pigg, Chamber president.
