The SouthWest Mobile County Chamber of Commerce (formerly Tillman's Corner Area Chamber of Commerce) met at 11:30 a.m., February 4 for the monthly business networking luncheon. President Alesia Davis chaired the meeting with approximately 65 members and guests present.
Among those enjoying the meal prepared by Neighbor's Seafood and Chicken and visiting with fellow guests were Alabama State Representative Vic Gaston; Mobile City Council member, John Williams; representatives from several new Chamber businesses; Star students from south Mobile County schools, their families and some school staff members and students in the T.A.L.L. program.
Tillman's Corner Community Center director, Tina Poiroux, informed guests of the First Responders Breakfast on March 27, and Citizen of the Year chair, Teresa Orrell, reminded those present that the banquet honoring COY nominees Dumas and Delores McLaney will be held February 27 at the Community Center.
Guest speaker was Bill Tunnell, Executive Director of the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park. Tunnell's very informative presentation included slides and a brief history of the battleship and other aspects of the Park, including that more than 14 million people have visited the ship.
Tunnell, who has been director at the Park for 17 years, was named "Honorary Veteran" by the South Alabama Veterans Council and was the first inductee into the Alabama Tourism Hall of Fame.
