Rachel Baxter, a certified Family and Consumer Science teacher, will conduct the classes at Grand Bay-St. Elmo Community and Senior Center, 11610 Highway 90 W., Mondays at 2 p.m. Each class will teach something new, all pertaining to stretching food dollars and preparing delicious family meals.
Classes are geared particularly to new cooks or low-income families so that they can learn how to spend SNAP or WIC food monies more efficiently. Week one will focus on food safety and budgeting; class two will teach knife skills and how to cut and prepare meats and vegetables. The third week will be on nutrition and how to follow a recipe, and week four will concentrate on how to stock a pantry and make simple sauces.
