Creola celebrated the receipt of its historic marker on Thursday, December 11 with a festive dinner. Pictured are the descendants (children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren) of Creola's first mayor, James "Jim" Smith as the city council honored them at the presentation of the Mobile County Bicentennial marker. Members of the Bicentennial Commission present were Nancy Johnson, Mary Atchison, Ruth Schmohl and Verdell Trotter Dees.
Each incorporated city will receive an historic marker as the legacy gift of the Bicentennial Commission of Mobile County. Thanks to Lee Anne Greene, Creola City Council member and Mary Atchison, member of the Bicentennial Commission for the photo of Mayor Jim Smith's family and information on the marker presentation.
