On Saturday, May 30, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., First Baptist Church of Irvington will host "Ole South Day," a family fun day to discover and celebrate our Southern Heritage. There'll be period music and demonstrations in cooking, basket making, quilting, and blacksmithing, as well as arts and crafts for sale. Memorial Day celebrations on the agendas include the following events:
American Legion Post 250, 10950 Dauphin Island Parkway, has several Memorial Day Weekend events scheduled. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 21-23, the Honor Guard and other Post 250 members will place an American flog on each veteran's grave at the following cemeteries: Fowl River, Dorlon, Reed, St. Michael's Laurendine, Dauphin Island and Rose of Lima.
On Sunday, May 24, at Pelican Reef Pier at 9 a.m., there'll be an Honor Guard Wreath-Laying Ceremony; at 9:30 a.m.; an Honor Guard Ceremony is planned at Rose of Lima Cemetery and an Honor Guard Ceremony is scheduled at 2 p.m. at Fowl River Cemetery.
On Memorial Day, Monday, May 25 at 8:30 a.m., there'll be a Full Honor Guard at the National Cemetery at Virginia and Ann Streets in Mobile. At 11:30 a.m. that day, Memorial Day Services and Ceremony will be held at AL Post 250. A barbecue will be at the Post after the ceremony. A Memorial Day Observance Ceremony, sponsored by the City of Semmes, will be held at Honor Park on Wulff Road on May 25, 1 p.m.

On Monday, May 25, 11 a.m. members of the Dauphin Island Veterans Association will hold a ceremony at Water Tower Plaza; the public is invited. On Saturday, May 30, 9 a.m., the Sassy Stitchers Quilting Group at the Connie Hudson Mobile Regional Senior Community Center will present Quilts of Valor to selected veterans. The Center is at 3201 Hillcrest Road.
