Fort Gaines, guardian of the Mobile Bay entrance for 150 years, stands at the eastern tip of the Island, where it commands panoramic views of the Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. This event highlights the historic fort's integral role in the Battle of Mobile Bay; the cannon will be fired every 45 minutes in honor of the soldiers who fought in this pivotal battle.
Visitors are encouraged to "come experience a living-history day for the whole family." There'll be various demonstrations, including one by the resident blacksmith. The Fort's museum and gift shop will be open, as well.
