![]() "Cocktails with the Critters," a fundraiser presented by the Dauphin Island Sea Lab Foundation, is scheduled for May 7, 6-9 p.m. at the Bluegill Restaurant on the Causeway, 3775 Battleship Parkway, Spanish Fort. Tickets are $50 in advance, $55 at the door and are available from the Foundation office by calling 251-605-6624 or online at sealabfoundation.org. This is the 10th annual fundraiser for the Dauphin Island Sea Lab Foundation, said Helene Hassell, Executive Director of DISL Foundation. It will be an exciting evening overlooking Mobile Bay, with the Bluegill "pulling out all the stops, serving fabulous and tasty hors d’oeuvres and wine and beer," according to organizers There'll be a special guest appearance by celebrated artist, Stig Marcussen, who will be on hand to add color to his limited-edition prints designed especially for Cocktails with Critters. Guests can look forward to entertainment by local singer/songwriter Eric Erdman, described as "a storyteller with a life that gives him stories to write songs about." His guitar takes him around the world and his lyrics are introspective, fun and quirky, but accessible, profound and palatable--they draw listeners in like old friends, say those who know his music. For those seeking more thrills, there will be a fantastic silent auction with many exciting and unique items, ranging from original artwork to guided fishing trips in the Gulf to fabulous vacation properties, Hassell said. A detailed list will be included with the invitation. The following paragraphs are about the DISLF and its support of the Sea Lab and its mission: The Dauphin Island Sea Lab Foundation (DISLF) supports the Sea Lab in its mission to provide wise stewardship of the marine environment through education and research. The Foundation provides funds to sustain the activities and promote awareness of the Sea Lab and its environmental issues and also funds the George Crozier Endowment. The Sea Lab is the marine laboratory for the State of Alabama. It serves twenty-two institutions of higher learning as well as hosting programs from k5-12th grade and Alabama Science teachers. The educational component is an important facet but the excellent, nationally acclaimed research aspect has been highlighted in the wake of the Deep Water Horizon oil spill disaster.
