Fundraiser for Telia Graham, 12, of Bayou La Batre, Saturday, October 3 at Bayou La Batre Senior/Community Center
Telia Graham of Bayou La Batre, now 12 years old, was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma when she was 6. It began in her right arm and has since moved to her hip, back and spine.
The daughter of Gracie Graham, Telia has 2 brothers and 2 sisters. In an earlier story (AL.com, April 2, 2014, Jo Anne McKnight, correspondent), Telia's grandmother, Anna Bosarge, said that the family has no insurance and that Medicaid does not nearly cover Telia's treatments and other expenses.
So on Saturday, October 3,11 a.m.-7 p.m., the community is holding a fundraiser to help the family. The event will be at Bayou La Batre Senior/Community Center, 12747 Padgett Switch Road in Irvington.
The fundraiser and family fun day includes a singing, arts and crafts booths and, for children, games and a Moon Walk. There's to be a silent auction, a bake sale and spaghetti dinners. There'll also be a Cruise-In (no entry fee, no competition) with vehicle owners showing off their classic cars, trucks and motor cycles. Tiffany DeGeer, who is helping with the fundraiser, said that there will be a raffle with "cool prizes": and a 50/50 drawing.
