The 8th Annual Richards-DAR House Museum Garden Party on April 12, 2-5 p.m., is a serious fundraiser to benefit the restoration of the home's priceless fence and gallery lace ironwork.
But it's also a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon. The title of "A Victorian Spring" gives guests a hint of what to expect: Fancy food, perfectly appointed tables and hats, hats and more hats. The Museum is at 256 Joachim Street in the heart of downtown Mobile with its beautiful old homes and rich history. And organizers of the tea party have designed a hat contest to fit the occasion and the surroundings. Categories are Breath of Spring, Vintage, Funniest, Most Creative, Hat and Outfit Ensemble and Just for Kids. Prizes will be awarded to winners.
Another facet of this event is the auction of several gift baskets, each valued at $150 or more. The names of the baskets tell something of their contents. There's a "Shop A Lot" basket, one titled "Taste of the Town," another "Art About Town" and one "For the Guy in your Life."
Tickets are a tax-deductible donation of $20 each. Call 208-7320 or visit www.richardsdarhouse.com for more information.
