Log Cabin has been added to Semmes Heritage Park, which will be on 2014 Semmes Christmas Tour of Homes and Tasting Tour December 13
A new addition to Semmes Heritage Park on Wulff Road is a log cabin, which sits among the oaks behind Malone Chapel and the old Semmes School. The cabin will be open and manned by Jeanette Byrd and other volunteers on the afternoon of Semmes Christmas Tour of Homes and Tasting Tour December 13. The building contains many items that would have been used by our ancestors in the early 1900s.
It might be of interest to teachers and others who make the Christmas Homes Tour to note that this complex of 3 buildings can be the basis of a very educational field trip for school children or a source of learning for college students. Groups such as book clubs, Red Hatters and civic organizations are welcome to tour, as well.
In addition, Malone Chapel can be rented for weddings or receptions or other events. The replica of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, a forerunner of First Baptist Church of Semmes, is a beautiful setting for a wedding.
To arrange for a class to spend a day attending school as their great-great-great grandparents might have or to book the Chapel, call 649-0270.
