When "Mary Poppins, the Broadway Musical" opened on stage at Chickasaw Civic Theatre, it was a wish come true for Director Mary Jo Alsip. "I remember how exciting it was to see the movie when I was a young girl," she said. Later, she often wondered about how to bring the story to the stage, and when the new musical crossed the Atlantic from the West End a few years ago, Alsip said she made a point of catching the production on Broadway.
And then, when production rights to the play became available earlier this year, the long-time director, with such CCT credits as Man of La Mancha, OKLAHOMA!, Guys and Dolls and last season's 50th Anniversary production of Les Miserables, jumped at the opportunity to bring Mary Poppins to the Chickasaw stage.
With Stacy Driskell as Mary and Jasyn Fowler as Bert, the show continues June 5, 6, 7, 12, 13 and 14, 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sundays. Adult tickets are $15 each; senior citizens (60+) and students admission fee is $12. Call 457-8887 or go to http://www.cctshows.com for reservations.
