Saraland Lions Cub Annual Officer Installation and Awards Banquet was held Tuesday evening, June 16, at Saraland Civic Center. Lion Grady Bryant led the Pledge of Allegiance and Terry Wigley offered the invocation before the fish and chicken dinner catered by Catfish Junction.
Dr. Howard Rubenstein served as Master of Ceremonies and Lion Phillip Woods presented awards for exceptional service. Lion of the Year award, voted on by Club members, went to George Denton, and the Melvin Jones Fellow Award, one of the Lions Club's highest honors, went to Grady Bryant and Martin Walker.
Special recognition was given to Paul Logan with 38 years of service as a Lion; also commended were Dr. Rubenstein with 30 years as a Lion, Ron Mitchell with 29 years and Bill Silver, 27 years.
Keynote Speaker, Lowell Bonds, Past International Director, installed the following members as Saraland Lions Club officers and Board members:
President Jeff Schmitz; 1st Vice President, David Stringer; 2nd Vice President, Newton Cromer; 3rd Vice President, O'Neil Robinson; Treasurer, Grady Bryant; Secretary, Phillip Woods. Lion Tamer is George Denton, Tail Twister is Robert McGhee. Membership Chair is Phillip Woods. One-Year Directors are Paul Logan and Bill Silver; Two-Year Directors are Dr. Howard Rubinstein, Thomas Johnson and Martin Walker. Immediate Past President is Joe Leach.
The Saraland Lions Club's purpose is to serve as champions of the blind, to aid in sight research, to help need persons to receive the eye care and vision enhancing equipment they need and to aid in needed community projects.
