Among the most beautiful aspects of the event are the table-scapes in which camellia growers use their blossoms and other items to tell a story or set a scene.
In the photo, Festival chair, Jeanette Byrd, left, shares a 'scape she created with Sarah Wilson, right, for the 2013 revival of the Semmes Camellia Festival, which originated in 1949. The corner table-for-two was draped in a light pink cloth topped by a flowered spread. The setting included a china tea service, pink-striped wallpaper, a camellia painting and rosy blooms in a crystal vase--all inspired by the beauty of local camellias.
The Semmes Camellia Festival is sponsored by Alumni & Friends of Semmes School, Inc. and the Mobile Public Library. For more information, call Jeanette Byrd at 649-1647.
