Semmes Christmas Tour, Saturday, December 12, 3-7 p.m., includes the home of Megan and Bryan Adams. Below is just a one-room view of what's in store for "Tourists"--the home will be fully decorated by Tour time
One of the residences on the 2015 Semmes Christmas Tour December 12, 3-7 p.m., is that of Megan and Bryan Adams.
Megan describes her decorating style as "eclectic," and she loves mixing old and new pieces, especially items that have been passed down from family members. "My grandmother gave me a porcelain Nativity scene that she handpainted and it's stunning," Megan said.
Visitors who have children at home will appreciate the Minnie Mouse-themed decor in the room of the Adams' daughter Tyler, 13 months old. "She's obsessed with Minnie this year," Megan said.
The Adams' dining room shows Megan's diverse decorating style. The centerpiece is a blend of rustic and modern, traditional and avant garde. The table is partially covered with a red-plaid cotton table tablecloth, casually placed, and the place settings are Nikko Christmastime, a gift from her mother. The warmth of pine cones and straw-weave reindeer is juxtaposed against the chilliness of white candles and a wooden, three-dimensional Christmas tree.
The backs of the dining room chairs are decorated with Christmas greenery and red berries tied together with black-and-white checked cotton ribbon bows (none are exactly the same.) A plain green wreath is suspended from the highest point of the china cabinet with another black and white ribbon.
A couple of unusual pieces that are not necessarily part of the Adams' Christmas theme will surely spark the interest of Tour visitors. A credenza that belonged to Megan's grandmother has been refinished in turquoise and, on the living room wall is a hanging of four of Megan's paintings of primitive churches placed against a background of white clouds and aquamarine sky. A coordinating pillow on a nearby chair pulls it all together.
Pictured is just a smidgen of the decorations in the Adams home; the rest will be equally as charming and ready for display to "tourists" on December 12.
