Aleta Boudreaux, president of Citizens for a Better Grand Bay, would like for seniors who are living on a fixed income and who are 165% below the U.S. poverty level to know that the USDA is providing free farmers' market coupons for them. The coupons are redeemable at Sessions Fruit Stand on U.S. Highway 90 north of I-10 on Grand Bay-Wilmer Road.
There are qualifications for eligibility, of course, including that seniors must be 60 years of age or older on the day of application. But there are also restrictions based on recipients' gross income and the number of people in the household. Seniors may fill out an application online at http://www.fma.alabama.gov/seniornutrition/ Those who want more information or who need help with the application can contact Kimon Brown at 251-865-7604. Brown can assist seniors either on the phone or at the Grand Bay-St. Elmo Senior and Community Center on Highway 90 West in Grand Bay.
