When Donna Abercrombie had breast cancer 20 years ago, she did what she had to do--she took her treatments, got well and went on with her life. When the disease returned in 2010, she did the same thing, but with an extra activity added. She's become a leader in the American Cancer Society's South Mobile County Relay for Life.
Until recently, Abercrombie was employed at a bank in Theodore, and this year, she led her team to raise almost $10,000 for ACS. They held a huge yard sale, had silent auctions and raffles, organized split-the-pot fundraisers. And they produced a fashion show using cancer survivors as models. "As a 2-time cancer survivor who wanted to watch my grandson Joseph grow up, I want to do what I can to help others live," Abercrombie said of her Relay participation.
Abercrombie is also a Tillman's Corner Area Chamber of Commerce board member, helping with the annual Business Expo, the Christmas Parade and Breakfast with Santa.
