Kathy Flowers loves animals, and her way of showing it is to volunteer her time to take care of them. She's been volunteering at the Environmental Studies Center since she was 16. And since 2001, she's worked with Saraland Animal Shelter, helping with fundraisers, pet adoptions and awareness campaigns.
For example, Flowers likes to primp the adoptable pets and show them off on their very own float during Saraland's Christmas parade. Or she'll accompany the Shelter mascot Brody to Fall Festivals at city schools--just one more way to impress upon children the importance of loving and taking care of their pets.
In other volunteer work, Flowers has served on the board of directors for youth baseball leagues at Amelia Park, she's a volunteer in the PTO at her children's school and she helps direct the Miss Saraland Pageant at the elementary and middle schools.
Flowers, a nurse supervisor at Volunteers of America South East, was born and raised in Saraland and is the daughter of a firefighter. "I have a very strong sense of community," she said.
