Theresa Orrell's life has been deeply affected by cancer. Her father died of the disease, she lost her best friend and a nephew to brain cancer and her granddaughter. who developed cancer at age 3 is now a 16-year survivor.
And so the American Cancer Society was a natural fit for Orrell's volunteerism. She's served on the American Cancer Society Leadership Council since 2006; was chair of South Mobile County Relay for Life for several years, helping to raise $23,000 in 2014 through PolySurveying's team; and has been an Ambassador for ACS-CAN (the advocacy side of American Cancer Society), traveling to Washington DC to appeal to Congress for funds to continue research for a cancer cure.
Orrell has also been active in Tillman's Corner Area Chamber of Commerce, having been on the Board of Directors 10 years, currently as Treasurer. She's a 15-year member of Business Network International, helping promote and referring business to other community operations.
"My husband and I have retired from PolySurveying, a family business, and our two sons, Matt and Darren, along with our grandsons, Brett, Zack and Chad, are currently operating the business. But," Orrell said, "although I have been "retired" for 11 years, I continue to stay active by serving wherever I can be of help."
