St. Margaret Catholic Church's Ladies Sodality Opportunity Quilt a long tradition at Blessing of the Fleet
At 4 p.m., Sunday, May 3, the end of the 66th Annual Blessing of the Fleet in Bayou La Batre, some lucky ticket holder will walk away with the Fleet Blessing Quilt 2015. He or she won't just go home with a cover for a bed--the winner will leave the Festival with a work of art, the culmination of a year's worth of needlework and the result of a long tradition in the Bayou.
Since 1988, members of the St. Margaret Catholic Church's Ladies Sodality have produced a quilt to be raffled to help raise money for their charitable undertakings. Each year's quilt is unique, but has always had a nautical theme. The squares are lovingly hand-embroidered by the women of St. Margaret's Parish; there are embroidered shrimp, crabs, fish, boats and, in the very center, St. Margaret Catholic Church on S. Wintzell Avenue.
Opportunity tickets can be purchased all weekend, May 2 and 3, at the Blessing of the Fleet at St. Margaret's.
