The teenagers from Explorer Post 149, sponsored by Chickasaw Civic Theatre, are staging "Peter Pan," scheduled to run July 17-19 and July 24-26 at CCT, 801 Iroquois Street. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sunday matinees. Tickets are $10 each available at the door or by visiting www.cctshows.com/
Steven Alsip, Post 149 adviser, said that Peter Pan is produced entirely by the Explorers, "from choosing the show through auditions, direction, rehearsals, set construction, tech and crew and, of course, action on stage."
The director is Catie Naylor, who said of her position, "I've loved bringing this classic story to life. I remember watching the movie as a kid with my siblings; I was starry-eyed over Peter and his magic. Directing this show has just brought back all those memories," she said.
The show stars Emily Ericson as Peter Pan. Christianna Mills is Wendy Darling; Graham Driskell is John Darling and Isabella Herrington is Michael Darling. Bennett Plessalla performs as both Mr. Darling and Hook; Sophie Herrington is Mrs. Darling and Starkey. Liza/Tiger Lily are played by Amelia Nolan; Nana, the nurse dog is portrayed by Adam Agagan; and Shanon Harris is Smee.
The Lost Boys are as follows: Tootles: Isabella Alday; Slightly: Savannah Lyle; Nibs: Zelda Peach; Twin 1: Morgan Russell; Twin 2: Chandler Smith and Curly: Delaney Perkins. The crew of Pirates consist of Adam Agagan, Kaylan Alday, Hunter Aull, Emma Harrell, Benjamin Pelham, Joseph Pelham and Lauren Wertz.
Catie Nalor said that she found the job of directing a cast and crew of a couple of dozen teens "actually quite difficult.". Trying to get all of them to focus at once can be "very hectic," she said, but added, "My cast and crew are amazing. They know their jobs and do them well. We've been rehearsing for about two months and everyone has worked really hard to make this show the best it can be! We've had so much fun putting this show together and it shows through the actors' energy on stage."
Her final comment: "I hope the show brings back magical memories from the original to all audience members, that everyone enjoys the show."
