"Celebrate Our Seniors! 2020" event was held Thursday, February 6, at the Via Health, Fitness and Enrichment Center on Dauphin Street.
The luncheon began with a welcome by Beth Thomas from Alabama Power Company and Via Center Board of Directors member. Via Board member, Ola Anise, offered the invocation.
Barbara Estes, Director of Research Development at Via, introduced the Board of Directors 2019-2020 and acknowledged event sponsors and community partners.
In naming the winner of the Arlene F. Mitchell Award, Deanna Murphy, Executive Director of Via Center, noted the many contributions of honoree, Dorothy Dorton, AARP.
Guests enjoyed a video presentation, "You've Got a Friend in Via," during lunch.
The Keynote Address was given by Dr. Peggy Martin, the legendary All-Time Winningest NCAA Volleyball Coach in U.S. History. Dr. Martin, whose presentation topic was "Winning at Life," is a Mobile Sports Hall of Fame Inductee and an American Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame Inductee. She has earned 24 Coach of the Year Awards and NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year.
The Spirit of Via Award, presented by Deanna Murphy, went to volunteer Joan Inge. A Closing Prayer was given by Ola Anise.
